STUDENTS FACILITATE TRAFFIC ON PALILULA`S RAMP

Group of students of Faculty of Electronic Engineering of University of Nis supported by the Program “Partnership for Education and Community Development” (PECD program) and company Philip Morris Operations a.d. developed a wireless system of signalization which facilitates traffic on one of the busiest Nis`s crossroads – Palilula`s ramp. On this occasion in the Laboratory on Faculty of Electronic Engineering in the presence of numerous guests and students, simulated the operation of equipment which will on May 26th be located on the crossroad.

Project presented Valentino Nikolic, leader of the project in the presence of docent Dr Zoran Jovanovic, mentor of the project, professor Dr Dragan Antic dean of the Faculty of Electronic Engineering, professor Dr Igor Novakovic, President of City Municipality of Palilula, Vladislav Ivkovic, head of Administration for Communal Services, Energy and Traffic of the City and Danijela Marvic, coordinator of PECD program.

Team of students with its mentor dealing with traffic problems on the crossroad “Palilula`s ramp”, devised, projected and created traffic wireless system. Displays are made which display time remaining until ignition of red and green light on the traffic lights, displays of time of passing train through crossroad, as and interactive voice response for crossing the streets for the blind and visually impaired people. In the laboratory on the faculty was made eight displays of white diodes which will to the drives provide information of the time of the cross of the train order accordingly used alternative directions. Was made and six LED displays of red – green diodes that have dual function – display time until passing train and display of time of inflamed red and green lights on the traffic lights, that to the participants in the traffic provides passable passage and reduces clutter at the intersection.

Project is realized in cooperation and with respect of the regulations of competent institutions. Permit for the realization of the project issued by “Administration for Communal Services, Energy and Traffic”, “Directorate for City Land Development” and City Municipalities “Palilula” and “Medijana”, and setting up the equipment of the crossroad will do PUE “Gorica” – sector “Signaling”.
